EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that it has signed midfielder Arun Basuljevic for the remainder of the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval.
“I have experience in this league and understand what it takes to win, so I’m excited to join this club and I’m ready to give my all for the team to help make a return to the playoffs,” Basuljevic said.
A USL Championship veteran, the 27-year-old was previously with Monterey Bay FC, registering 19 appearances in the club’s inaugural season. Basuljevic has also played for Oklahoma City Energy FC, Fresno FC and New York Red Bulls II, recording seven goals and three assists in 88 league matches between the three clubs. He was an integral part of the 2017 Red Bulls campaign, in which they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final.
Basuljevic would go abroad to Fremad Amager in 2018, making six appearances in Denmark’s second tier before being brought in by current Locomotive Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut to third-division Swedish side Nyköpings BIS. Under Clarhaut, Basuljevic made one assist in 11 total appearances and was a part of the historic Svenska Cup win over first-division side GIF Sundsvall.
“I know what type of elements he brings to the team, so we are excited to welcome Arun to our Locomotive family,” Clarhaut said about the Bronx, New York native. “A highly versatile midfielder, he has an incredible engine and a top tier work rate who sacrifices for the team. He’s a winner and we want those type of personalities on our team to keep driving our standard.”
