EL PASO, Texas (June 28, 2021) – El Paso Locomotive returns to action on the road against Texas rival, Rio Grande Valley FC on Wednesday. Kickoff from H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas is set for 6:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Locomotive is rolling strong as the only undefeated team in USL Championship, following its 2-1 win over Real Monarchs. Goals from Defender Macca King and Forward Aaron Gomez secured a critical three points on the road, extending the Locomotive record to 4-0-3 after the opening seven games. Taking advantage of having games in hand over its Mountain Division competition, El Paso is quickly closing the gap with Rio Grande Valley FC at the top of the table.
Following the 2-1 loss RGVFC suffered at the hands of FC Tulsa last Friday, Locomotive has the opportunity now to not only close the gap but overtake the top seed of the Mountain Division. El Paso holds an advantage with momentum on its side as well as a 12-day rest period, however, Locomotive has only traveled to H-E-B Park once before. In 2019, the Sun City team fell 1-0 in Edinburg, Texas after an early second-half goal from Eric Bird provided RGV with an advantage. Since that night, Locomotive has only improved, currently on an 18-game regular season undefeated streak that it aims to extend by picking up points against Rio Grande Valley FC on Wednesday night.
